Earlier this year, FSP launched a new community initiative giving all employees 2 additional days of leave allowance to be used for charity work.
Recently, several members of our Digital Change & Adoption team spent one of the days available to them, at The Bluebells, part of Sebastian’s Action Trust.
Founded in 2004, Sebastian’s Action Trust supports families of seriously ill children, walking alongside them from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. Sebastian’s provide emotional, practical and social support to families in the community, in the family home and at their two centres, The Bluebells in Basingstoke and The Woodlands in Crowthorne.
The team helped with a variety of gardening activities within the trust’s beautiful outdoor area, which includes a wildflower meadow, mini golf course, play area, barbecue patio, vegetable patch, outside seating and a beautiful memorial garden overlooking the North Waltham countryside.
One member of the team, Amy Holland, reflected on her visit to the trust, saying:
“The story and purpose behind Sebastian’s Trust really stood out for me. When Sebastian fell ill with cancer, there was nowhere that the family could go to have a break away from it all. Holiday locations did not have the right facilities to help support those who were terminally ill.
It became Jane’s motivation (Sebastian’s mother & CEO), when Sebastian passed away, to create a holiday location where families with terminally ill children or children with ‘limited-life’ could go away to for a break, with a variety of facilities to support them, for example, wheelchair access, bed support, a dedicated pool and a cinema.
The families at Sebastian’s are supported wholeheartedly by a caring and dedicated team from the moment of diagnosis, throughout the entire journey and beyond. They create a special environment where no matter how many days a child has left, they can live life to the fullest and create fun, loving memories that that families left behind can carry with them forever.”
Nicola Lawrence, Corporate Fundraiser at Sebastian’s, said:
“Please pass on my thanks to your fabulous team that came to Sebastian’s. They worked really hard and think they have a new love for the strimmer and power tools!”
