FSP Academy is launching a brand-new series highlighting the journeys of our academy graduates from their first days with us to growth within and beyond. This week, Alishba, Brand and Comms Apprentice, interviewed Business Analyst Associate, Cameron Burkett, as he shared his words of wisdom to fellow early careers individuals. Curious to know what it was? Check it out below!
- Alishba – ‘What is your role at FSP and have you been in this role since you started in the FSP Academy?‘
Cameron – ‘My current role is an Associate Business Analyst, I joined the FSP Academy as a Graduate Business Consultant but have been working as a Business Analyst for the majority of my time in the FSP Academy.’
- Alishba – ‘What made you choose FSP for your graduate role?‘
Cameron – ‘The first thing that stood out to me when I first found FSP was the amount of awards the company had won, it was clear it was a great place to work. Another factor was the company values; it was evident that the values were a critical part of the way the business operates, and those values really resonated with my own beliefs and aspirations when searching for a graduate role.
After having a great conversation with the FSP Academy Lead during the recruitment process, I felt that FSP was the right place for me and it was clear that the FSP Academy would provide me with the opportunities for learning and growth that I wanted in a graduate programme. As well as this, consultancy really interested me, I liked the opportunity to work with different clients across different industries. Every box was ticked!’
- Alishba – ‘Whilst you were in the Academy, what kind of support and guidance did you receive and how did this contribute to where you’re at now in your role?‘
Cameron – ‘Whilst in the academy, I received endless support from people across the business. You immediately have a network of people who you can reach out to for advice and guidance, and they put you and your opportunities over and above their own priorities which I found incredibly selfless and inspiring.
I was provided with amazing opportunities within clients I never thought I’d be considered for as a graduate, but FSP really value their Academy members. It is a priority for the organisation to provide early careers with the support and opportunities needed to succeed and get their careers off to the best possible start.’
- Alishba – ‘How has the Academy contributed to your overall career growth and success?‘
Cameron – ‘I would absolutely not be where I am today without the FSP Academy. Coming in and being able to get a taste of a few different roles was invaluable, and once I had found the right fit I was given the opportunity to build on those skills almost immediately in both client facing and internal roles. That has led to me now being a confident Business Analyst, leading initiatives and projects within our clients and in FSP internally.’
- Alishba – ‘Can you tell us about a key highlight from your time at FSP so far?‘
Cameron – ‘Winning a Directors Excellence Award last year at our annual awards ceremony at The Savoy in London has to be a key highlight of mine.’
- Alishba – ‘What advice would you give to both current and new Academy members for maximising their experience?‘
Cameron – ‘Be proactive, ask questions and seek feedback. Have an open mindset and take on every opportunity you are provided. Build your network and speak to as many people as possible across the business – FSP is full of incredible talented individuals who would be happy to chat through ideas, questions or just have a general conversation. Finally, enjoy the journey – come to work every day with a smile and take pride in everything that you do!’
